Figure skating?

what do i have to do to be a figure skater im willing to do what ever it takes|||you'll find out trust me.

have you tried skating before? i would sign up for group lessons at a local rink and use rental skates to try it out first. you may need some basic skills to go on the freestyle ice too. anyways......

figure skating is a dedication sport.

in the beginning you don't have to do much. but if you are looking to excel fast, then i would spend a good amount of time on the ice AT LEAST 6-10 hours a week and (that's about two hours every time you go to the rink) get a private coach and get lessons for 30 minutes two or three times a week.

stretch everyday (splits, bridges, etc. hard stretching)

do off-ice jumping to increase muscle strength.

even if you do all of this, it doesnt mean things will come easy. it took me a year to land my double flip and 3 days after that, i had a clean double lutz. its different for every person. you could be stuck on an element for 2 years, or get it in two months!

skating is also fun for recreation and also less rigorous.its equally enjoyable if you learn just for the sake of trying something diffferent. if you do it for recreation, you dont need to do much stretching or off-ice. and you spend less money. you can also do small competitions.

if you are over 10 years old, making it to the olympics is going to be a dream deferred. most of the girls who do this all of their lives with dedication dont get to see the olympic podium. im not trying to say you cant do it. but this would be the first time in ladies figure skating, for that to happen.

have fun with whatever you choose to do!|||well getting lessons would be a good start|||Buy good skates, get a private coach, stretch every day (to improve flexibility), Take off ice classes (ballet, skallet, jumping courses), be prepeared to fall (most skaters have at least one bad injury in there skating life), ALWAYS practice every thing ( just becuase you have your waltz jump, you still warm up with in in FS5), and NEVER give up!

It's a very expensive sport, but its worth it.

Have fun and good luck!|||Yes. Flat out YES. This is a VERY demanding sport but you can make it easier by practicing A TON. you seem VERY enthusiastic and I admire that. If that is the attitude you will have towards this sport, than you will make it very far. Hope this helps!!! ~ TwirlGirl|||lessons

skates

jog for about an hour every day to stay in shape

practice splits

stretch your muscles|||Take ice skating Lessons, try stretching twice a day, take Gymnastics and Ballet, and try getting your arms and legs stronger.|||I would go to your local rink. And ask about group lessons at first to mke sure you like it. Remember it is a very difficult and demanding sport. You have to be very dedicated to be sucessful. After you do group lessons you will go on to private lessons and you will progress much more quickly from there.

Good Luck.|||If you are willing to do whatever it takes to be a Figure Skater you have to give up a lot of things like eating Junk Food or taking away time for other activities. You have to stretch for at least an hour everyday. You can't rest for a month and start skating again, then you have to learn everything over again. These are only some of the things you need to do to become a Figure Skater.
